Weekly Spelling

Spellings are sent home each Monday and tested each Friday. These are linked to your child’s work in their Read Write Inc session. Highlighted words are for review.

High Frequency Word Spelling

The following lists are High Frequency Words. Your child will bring the list home that they are currently working on. Once they can spell all the words on the list they will move onto the next list. These are tested at the end of each half term.

Reading at Home

Children take home 3 reading books each week. These are a carefully selected mixture of Oxford Reading Tree books (including poetry, non-fiction and traditional tales) and Read Write Inc Bookbag Books. Please read at home a minimum of 5 times per week and record this in your child’s reading diary.

Topic: Island Life

This half term we will be focusing on:

Island Life

Our topic for this half term is Island Life. This topic is based around the Katie Morag books by Mairi Hedderwick. We will be looking at the fictional Isle of Struay (Katie Morag’s home) as well as real islands.

Please see listed below the subject areas our topic will cover:
History – studying the life of an author.
Geography – finding out what an island is, creating a variety of maps, learning about a ‘bird’s eye view’ and recognising simple features on a map.
Art – line drawing, painting and collage of Katie Morag and the Isle of Struay.
Design and Technology – creating a 3D model of the Isle of Struay.
Science – Spring season work and continued work on Materials

This term our PE days are Monday and Tuesday.

On Mondays we will be working with Elliot from Onside.
On Tuesdays we will be learning ceildh dancing.

Please make sure hair is tied up and no earrings are worn on PE days.
